For those who can already work all the basic crochet stitches, this course will expand your crochet knowledge giving you the confidence to tackle more complex projects by yourself.
About this course
You’ll expand on the basic stitches you already know, combining them to work more complex patterns and decorative stitches, working in rows, and also learning the principles of the amigurumi technique (often used in toy making). You’ll also learn how to follow more involved patterns and charts. At the end of the course, you’ll be confident to work on your own, and be given guidance of a suitable project to undertake at home.
What do I need to join this course?
Suitable for adults who can work basic crochet stitches, and especially suitable for those who’ve already attended the Beginners course. You need to have some manual dexterity and be prepared to practice what you learn at home between lessons.
What do I need to have with me?
Bring a pencil and paper, and if possible some scissors, a large-eyed needle to sew in ends and yarn of different colours in DK or Aran weight and a 4mm or 5mm hook.
What will I gain from this course?
As well expanding your knowledge of crochet techniques, you’ll gain the confidence to work a more complex project yourself, providing a sense of achievement and allowing you to further your enjoyment of this mindful and creative hobby.
About The Tutor
Annie Windley learned to knit and crochet at the age of 6 and has been crafting ever since. A qualified teacher, she initially worked in a middle school, where she encouraged the young students to create with yarn in after-school clubs. Annie spent most of her career as a journalist on women’s weekly magazines, where she also helped run weekly knitting and crochet skill-building get-togethers. After leaving the magazine world, Annie began sharing her love of yarn-based crafts by teaching freelance, both in Thanet and London, designing and selling hand-made goods and patterns, and writing a craft-based blog on her website pickingupstitches.com. She is looking forward to spreading the love of knitting and crochet to more students through Coastal Community Learning.
How will I be taught?
By demonstration, and individual guidance, you’ll be hands-on from the start, with notes to take away.
