Film Making - This is Our Home

Course Details

Overview

Whether history, political, personal or artistic, film is a way to share all kinds of different stories about the areas that we live in. According to Turner “the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe” And of course according to Madonna “Whenever I go there, I feel like I’ve entered a dream…so many
cool, creative, interesting people… What is Ramsgate/Margate/Broadstairs and beyond according to you? How would you express that in a short film? This course offers a focus to explore filming, and tell a story of this place that we have all chosen to call home.

Course Description:
We will create short films (2–5 minutes) using photos, video clips, and voiceovers.
Throughout the course we will discuss the language of film and television - camera angles,
shot sizes, colour, sound, music - and how these can be utilised to tell stories, whether it be
for cinema or for social media. We will also explore narrative structure and how we can lead
a viewer on a journey with film.
Students are encouraged to do some planning and possibly filming at home.
The genre and content of the films will be up to students, and can be devised through
