What students should be able to do or understand by the end of the course:

At the end of the course students should be able to demonstrate increased awareness of the fundamental principles of oil painting methods and techniques.
Demonstrate increased skill in handling oil paint and enhanced awareness of the important role colour plays in producing oil paintings
To demonstrate increased knowledge and awareness of historical and contemporary influences and how this relates to their own work

Should be able to demonstrate increased skills, associated with greater fluency and freedom of technique.

What students need to bring:
You don't need a large amount of materials and equipment to start painting in oils successfully.
It's generally better to have fewer colours to start with - you learn how to mix colour more successfully that way!
For the basics you will need a few oil colours, oil brushes, bottle of refined linseed oil and a bottle of white spirit and surface to paint on - stretched canvas, canvas board or hardboard/plywood or MDF.
If you have any of the these already, bring them to the first session.
There is a vast range of art materials available to buy, so it's best to take advice on what to get before heading to your local art shop or buying online.
An advisory list of materials and equipment, the best way and which ones to purchase, will be issued as a handout at the beginning of the first session.
